The Krin (long "slit drum") is made from a solid log and plays 4 pitches. It is used in Africa by secret societies, so I don’t know anything about it! Polynesians use the same type of drum, sometimes several feet long. The female ones recline while the male ones stand upright. The modern slit drum is often made from exotic hardwoods and is sometimes sold at arts festivals.
