| The Guiro, or "Gourd Scraper" is used in many types of music in Africa and throughout the Caribbean. In fact, indigenous music from the Virgin Islands is often called “Scratch Music”. Merengue music from Dominican Republic uses a metal scraper reminiscent of the metal pipe scraper used by the Wassolon in Mali (W. Africa). If you have a washboard but no Guiro, grab it and go jam with the cats! |
