The JunJun is also sometimes called DunDun. The largest is the Doununba, the middle is the Sagban, and the small one is the Kenkeni. They are the backbone of West African rhythms, providing support for Djembes, Balaphones, and other instruments. In Africa the drums are slung over the shoulder and played by one player per drum. The players often play with a small metal bell in one hand and a drumstick in the other. Elsewhere, the lack of knowledgeable qualified players has necessitated one player playing 2 or 3 drums. This is known as "Ballet" style.
