This wonderful drum, called a Doumbek comes from North Africa and the Middle East. The goblet shape gives the drum a long ringy sustained tone, and the ceramic material, of which it's made, produces a sharp high-pitched sound when played on the edge. This drum will be heard at almost any bellydance performance.
