The West African Djembe Drum is said to be the “king” of all drums and has, indeed, spread all over the world to become perhaps the most well-known type of drum. The Djembe player is a master of controlling the event and will drum intensely to make the dancers dance, and to cool the musicians down inbetween dancer's solos. The title of "Master Drummer” must be earned. The head is goatskin or antelope skin and good quality rope has replaced the old rawhide straps on early drums.
